Darkness.
Darkness was all I'd ever seen.
Not the darkness that others speak of. Not the blood of innocents, spilled onto wooden floors that once only new the wetness of tea. Not the loss of hope in the face of overwhelming evil.
No, the darkness I see is just that.
Darkness.
Stillness.
Nothingness.
My entire life was been nothing but a constant wandering through these shadows. For years, I was kept in a home, the timber walls of which became more akin to iron bars. Yet the prison of the house was nothing compared to the shackles that are my eyes.
Eyes that see only darkness.
Eyes that had imprisoned me in a barren world of black.
And yet it was the blind who led the blind to the light.
I remember the sound of the lady's voice that day. It was soothing, just as I remembered mother's was. Yet there was a determination about it, a feeling that I had long forgotten in my battle with the dark world.
I remember the feeling of her hands on mine as led me out of the prison I'd spent my life in. They were warm and firm, the complete opposite of the cold of the frost on my skin that winter day.
Most of all, I remember the moment that I was led into the temple for the first time, and when the radiance of Ethel shone into my life.
Ethel, goddess of justice, found me, and I her.
Darkness is still all I see. Yet for that one moment, I saw light.
And that flicker of light is now what guides me against the darkness that others see.
Introducing Charlotte, the Blind Assassin of Ethel!
Charlotte is not the toughest of heroes, with relatively low health and defence for her cost. However, with Evasive 6, Charlotte is an expert at evading the attacks of less skilled aggressors, meaning she'll be dancing around the battlefield unharmed unless more dangerous foes come to combat her.
Despite being denied her sight, Charlotte has developed an uncanny sense of detecting the weakness in her enemies. With a powerful 5 dice attack, she's always ready to jump into the fray, confront her foes, and Expose Their Weaknesses. By spending 2 Fate, Charlotte is able to guide her blows to slip through her enemies defences, either ignoring all but the toughest armour, or finding a vulnerable area and exploiting it. If she combines this by attacking an enemy When They Can't Strike Back, Charlotte becomes the most deadly hero the Humans have in their arsenal.
On top of these abilities, Charlotte is very swift, not only because of her 5 Speed, but also because of her ability to step through the shadows. Shadowstep, a free action, lets her jump into another nearby space. An extremely flexible ability, Shadowstep provides an insane amount of manoeuvrability. During one round, Charlotte might Shadowstep into position, then charge at an unsuspecting enemy. On the next, Charlotte might move to engage another, only to then Shadowstep back to safety right after. What she lacks in toughness she more than makes up for in mobility and lethality.
This mobility is only further boosted by her Rogue keyword. Found only on some of the stealthier and more slippery characters, Charlotte might be powered by the Fate card Seize the Day, allowing her to activate first in a round, before anyone else! This powerful trick may allow you to effectively steal the initiative from your opponent, or perhaps even activate two of your characters in a row! Although Charlotte would prefer to strike at those who expose their weak spots to her, she's more than happy to take the initiative and slay her foes before they even draw their weapons too!
